Enviroment "Using Resources to Strengthen Teaching and Learning" v2
I did a pretty radical restructuring of this one and put in both a student acting moment and also the bit about the school being a middle school too (though David never made this explicit, though I think we can make this clear in the writing). It’s a bit long, and I’m not sure that it totally makes sense. I also don’t know what to do about the potential overlap with the science coaching in Reestablishing the School’s Science Focus. I think that this one is more specific on PD and English coaching while Reestablishing is really focused on science. What do you think?
Environment "Teaching Environmental Science" v2
I split this clip off per Marla’s request from the Reestablishing the School focus Clip
Puente "Focusing on Empowerment" v2
Great notes Marla. I think that your conceptual framework is actually really strong, and I agree that we need to shorten the clips rather than split up. The problem is that everything is so great with this school that it’s painful to loose stuff. But, as always, less is probably more and I think that this one is in much better shape. I took off 1:30 and I think it's focused and really strong.
I think it’s best to just cut out Carlos here. His voice is present in most of the other clips and I agree that it comes out of nowhere. I looked at his other interview and there wasn’t really as powerful a line on this subject.

Edison "Focusing on Academics" v3
Trimmed out the ELL section significantly, taking a good 30 seconds off the clip. I agree about starting with Ilona and then having the “subtitle” come up, but I also think that using various methods of this “subtitling’ works also. It’s also tricky too because a lot of the clips begin with a talking head and I’m not sure that putting a subtitle over them would work (I’m also pushing the limits of the broll on this case).
Edison "Providing Real-World Experiences
I haven’t posted another version of this clip because I think the only thing at issue here is Dominic’s subtitles. See version 1/2 to weigh in on this. I’m leaning towards leaving it in—it’s really my fault because the audio is so bad. Are we worried that this one is too long? I think as a clip it works because each section really is it’s own entity, but we could break it up into two clips.
Edison "Building Community" v3
I tried to trim out the faculty cohesion section, but I don’t know what I could trim without loosing big ideas. For what it’s worth, I also don’t really feel that it’s too long. Made other changes as per Marla’s notes.
Edison "Focusing on Resources" v3
I have created a more cohesive title-subtitle relationship. Made changes as per Marla’s notes and rejiggered the Business Manager broll section.

Env "Improving the Learning Environment" v2
Not sure exactly what your notes mean with this clip. I feel like the scenes are broken up pretty clearly. I do some minor trimming, but if you’re still having problems, then we should speak about specifics.

Edison "Focusing on Resources" v2
As usual, Marla's restructuring was spot on, and I also shortened the BM at the beginning. There really isn't any more broll to support this. I could cut to a classroom, but she's really talking about something specific that we unfortunately couldn't capture in our day of filming.
I'd be happy to insert more classroom footage, if you like.

Edison "Providing Real-World Experiences" v2
Totally agree about the shop guy, fixed that and made color corrections throughout all the Edison clips.
Don't know what to say about the mouse-squad computer prodigy girl--we don't have footage of her working with a computer, so I felt like it was more impactful to see her say it with such nonchalant confidence.
Subtitled Dominick. Can't tell if this is insulting, but the audio is really bad.

Made all of Marla's suggestions and I really like the text. I've put text in all the clips in two ways: As text over black and as a sort-of subtitle over the first image of the sections described. I think that we can use both, but I'm happy to go either way. I don't feel like the text over black slows things down too much--it functions for me as a little breathing room to think about what you just watched.
Tottenville "Understanding Quality Teaching" v2
Second version of "What is Good Teaching." Did some tightening, but I'm not sure about the high teacher turn-over. I understand Iris' point, but high turnover in NY is a fact and if we take this line out we won't allow people to think about the issue. Thoughts?
Tottenville "Funding The Extended Day Program" v2
This was a tricky clip. I tried to cut down the talking head (shaved a minute off the clip), but I'm just not feeling like we filmed enough classroom footage to cover all these clips. The best classroom stuff I'm using in the Teaching clip and unfortunately these lessons--while very good--didn't use a lot of technology or really visually interesting material.
We can discuss further ways to tweaking this clip, though it does feel a lot better a minute shorter.
Bob mentioned using the stuff about the teachers union. Any thoughts on if we want to go this route?

Tottenville "Measuring Success" v2
I made all the changes in the comments. Clip is a lot shorter and I integrated parts of it (as Marla suggested) into the "Structuring the Extended Day Program" clip.

This is the new name of the old "Which Students Do We Target?"
