Regarding "how can we best reach these students?" clip:
I think these pieces work well. My recommendation is to resequence as follows:
Begin with Rick's question "why aren't they succeeding in their classes? why are they not going to their classes, staying in their classes?" Then move to his thoughts on viewing students in the hallway as a security issue and their realization that this was not the proper focus.
Move to Sheila and others describing and defining the program and who it is for.
Then, move to student and faculty reflections on the program.
End with Sheila "we didn't put you here as a punishment, we put you here as a reward, because we see your potential, and we're going to help you to reach it."
This comment from Rick would fit better in the "what do other teachers and administrators need to know" clip: "initially, aim for the middle...address those who fall through the cracks."
Thank you.
Also, I'm wondering if any pieces of the interview with Octavia (red head) are useful since we have a lot of classroom shots with her in them. This would be helpful since she's a first year G student and the 3 we interviewed are second year G's.
thx.
